AJAX CONVENTION CENTRE

550 Beck Crescent, Ajax, Ontario L1Z 1C9

Durham Economic Prosperity ConferenceOn Friday, November 9th, the who’s who of Durham’s business, civic, labour, non-profit, Aboriginal and academic communities came together for the fourth biennial Durham Economic Prosperity Conference to discuss opportunities for growth focusing on “Sharpening Durham’s Competitive Edge”.

The one half day “think tank” Conference focused on “Sharpening Durham’s Competitive Edge”. Through the candid exchange of ideas, speakers and delegates explored the opportunities for working together and gave us some sense of where Durham Region stands in the global economy and provided a greater insight of the challenges we need to deal with, the opportunities we need to seize and the threats that we need to come to grips with.

The Durham Economic Prosperity Conference (DEPC), introduced in 2006, is a partnership between the Region of Durham, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and has been an unprecedented success. Every second year forward thinking leaders from across the Region meet to discuss the most pressing issues facing Durham Region. The Conference has maintained its reputation as the go-to forum for decision makers from across the Region.

The Durham Economic Prosperity Committee would like to express its sincere appreciation to everyone who attended the 2012 Durham Economic Prosperity Conference. Your contributions, input and ideas were essential to its success.

The Conference culminated with a written report generated and sent to all participants and all levels of government for follow up on the initiatives identified in the report. Partnerships and alliances are often formed to act on specific collaborative projects and initiatives identified at the Conference. It is anticipated that the report will encourage dialogue among community leaders and lay the groundwork for future economic initiatives in Durham Region. The next Conference will be held in November 2014.
