2014 Durham Economic Prosperity Conference

Friday, November 14, 2014

550 Beck Crescent, Ajax, Ontario L1Z 1C9

On Friday, November 14th, the who’s who of Durham’s business, civic, labour, non-profit and academic communities came together for the 5th biennial Durham Economic Prosperity Conference to discuss opportunities for growth focusing on “Building Durham’s Competitive Edge”.

Through the candid exchange of ideas, speakers and delegates explored the opportunities for working together and gave us some sense of where Durham Region stands in the global economy and provided a greater insight of the challenges we need to deal with, the opportunities we need to seize and the threats that we need to come to grips with.

The Durham Economic Prosperity Conference (DEPC), introduced in 2006, is a partnership between the Region of Durham, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and has been an unprecedented success. Every second year forward thinking leaders from across the Region meet to discuss the most pressing issues facing Durham Region. The Conference has maintained its reputation as the go-to forum for decision makers from across the Region.

The Durham Economic Prosperity Committee would like to express its sincere appreciation to everyone who attended the 2014 Durham Economic Prosperity Conference. Your contribution, input and ideas were essential to its success.

If you missed the Conference, or wish to review the information, please click here for videos and PowerPoint presentations. Check back for the transcriptions, to be posted in December.

A written report will be generated and sent to all participants and all levels of government for follow up on the initiatives identified at the Conference. Partnerships and alliances are often formed to act on specific collaborative projects and initiatives identified at the Conference. It is anticipated that the report will encourage dialogue among community leaders and lay the groundwork for future economic initiatives in Durham Region.

The Durham Economic Prosperity Conference is dedicated to advancing the economic prosperity of Durham Region, develop solutions and uncover new opportunities for growth.

The Committee would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors for your generosity to help make this year’s Conference possible.
